Maintaining Your Buick: Service Intervals and Tips

Biannual Maintenance

Motor oil typically needs to be changed twice a year, although consider a shorter interval if you often tow trailers, take short trips of less than five minutes, or use dusty, dirty, or sandy trails. Your tires should be rotated and realigned every six months, and you’ll probably need to apply fresh wax twice a year to protect the bodywork. 

Brakes must be professionally inspected at least twice a year and even more often if you put them under excessive pressure with regular heavy traffic. The intervals for installing new brake pads and rotors vary enormously from driver to driver; routine inspections will determine when yours should be replaced. 

Yearly Maintenance

Have your Buick’s suspension, transmission, and differentials serviced yearly, with fluids refreshed as required. The engine will also need a full tune-up once a year, which entails examining and possibly replacing spark plugs, fuel injectors, and ignition coils. 

Each of your car’s belts and hoses should also be examined, and the cooling system needs a pressure test to make sure it’s not leaking coolant, which will need to be flushed every two years or so. It’s also advisable to have your air conditioner inspected once a year, and you’ll need to recharge your refrigerant every two or three years.
